House Votes To Restore ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban For First Time In Quite A While

America is a free country, so free that carrying an arsenal and armed ammunition is legal. When every citizen carries a gun in their hand chaos is bound to happen. America has been a witness to many gun violence and mass shootings during this year such as the supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York, the massacre of school children in Uvalde, Texas, and the Fourth of July shooting of revelers in Highland Park, Illinois. The widespread violence across America has urged the US House to vote on implementing a ban on assault weapons.

The House has passed legislation to revive the ban that was once implemented on assault weapons to control the crush of mass shootings happening in communities nationwide. About 10 years ago carrying an armed arsenal was banned in America and it’s the reason why there were fewer to no mass shootings to cross firing between normal citizens but in 1994 the limit of the bill expired and guns became legal to carry, thus bloodshed followed. Now the House is trying to revive the bill again under the act of 217-213 but it seems the bill will likely fail when presented in the US Senate.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed the bill in front of the Democratic-run House and explained how the earlier ban ‘saved lives. The Republicans shunned the approach and called the act a mere stunt to impress voters for the midterm elections. Almost all the Republicans voted against the bill that passed act 217-213.

Joe Biden who played a role in implementing the previous ban in 1994 on semi-automatic weapons ban as a senator encourages passage for he is ready to sign if the bill reaches his desk. The Office of Mr. President stated that when the ban was in place a mere decades ago the mass shootings had a decreasing rate and in 2014 when the ban was lifted the shootings also increased. So the cause, the problem, and the solution can be seen clearly. The Republicans on the other hand called this bill an act to grab guns and stated that an armed America is a safe and free America. The Republicans strongly oppose this move while the Democrats argue that the ban on weapons makes sense and called out the Republicans as extreme and out of step with Americans.

Jim McGovern of Massachusetts said the ban on weapons was not about taking the citizen’s second amendment rights but it is to ensure children that they don’t have the right ‘to get shot’. The National gun violence prevention agency stated that the House act against assault weapon ban looks like a promising step to ban future restrictions at the federal level.

On Wednesday the court ruled out the law in California prohibiting the purchase of guns under the age of 21 and called the law ‘unconstitutional’. The court let stand a separate state requirement that younger adults obtain hunting licenses before purchasing long guns. Federal law bars the sale of handguns to adults younger than 21 by federally licensed dealers but not by private parties. The California assault weapon overturned is the next step into much violence as many believe that Trump appointed a judge in the court is the reason why such an act was even raised in the court. The assault weapon ban was lifted and now even an 18-year-old can not only buy but also carry an armed vessel in their pockets. No wonder the mass shootings are taking place as they have given them guns in their hands but not the right education to handle them.
